Sneakers, Music and All Things Street

Patta x Carhartt.

This coming week will see the coming together of two heavyweights and past collaborators, Patta and Carhartt in an extensive collection that will release online and in Patta locations on Friday 30th September.

It’s the second effort from the two staple brands and with the full lookbook live now over at it’s easy to see where the hype is coming from.

Here are some of the highlights from the collection:

As you can see from the pictures, it’s an extensive collection comprising of season-appropriate outerwear and crewnecks down to hats and t-shirts. It’s heavy on branding and is mainly a fairly subdued colour palette with one or two exceptions. Understated and cool, something that is intrinsically woven into the fabric of both brands.

For me, the standout of the collection has to be the pullover jacket, functionality and attractive design piled together, and the slate colourway is just something else.

Anyway, the online drop should be around 11am and be quick because the best pieces will not be hanging around for long.

Peace, Zack.

This Saturday Dover Street Market will play host to the newest creation from esteemed designer/photographer/all-round-creative-powerhouse Gosha Rubchinskiy: introducing Paccbet

The name is pronounced ‘Rassvet’ and is the Russian word for ‘sunrise’ when translated directly, though it is asserted that it is used often as a metaphor for ‘better days’ so it acts as an acutre reflection of the optimism of the youth that Gosha himself represents.

This new line/brand of clothing is a tangent from his main line (in which the Paccbet logo has been used before) and is a more targeted skate brand, and his selection of creative direction is an ode to that; pro-skater Tolia Titaev is charged with the direction of the brand.

The brand’s merchandise will be produced by Comme Des Garçons, the same as his name brand, so we can expect the usual product quality, but possible with that, the same not-inexpensive pricing.

Anyway, here is a selection of some of the shots of the new brands inaugural collection, consisting of tees, a hoodie, hats and of course, decks:

The collection consists of a pretty summery pallete for the time of the release but it manages the effortless cool that we associate with gosha, fairly minimal designs that can be particularly bold.

For me the highlights are the pink longsleeve and the hoodies, the back and front embroidery on the hoodies is something a little different but really cool.

The collection drops tomorrow on the DSM E-SHOP and in-store at 11am.

Peace, Zack.

Frank Ocean: Blonde.

After what seemed like an eternity, Frank Ocean has finally dropped his sophomore album and follow up to his critically acclaimed 2012 debut ‘Channel Orange’. Blonde dropped a couple of weeks back now but I wanted to take a few weeks to listen to it over and over before I talked about it; mainly because Frank makes proper albums, this isn’t a work of distinctive singles with no crossover or relation, it’s a full and rounded album that takes you on a journey from start to finish, so it takes a few listens to pick apart individual songs and hooks and lyrics.

In short, it’s nothing shy of brilliance. It was remarkably worth the wait. It’s hard to pick out just a few highlights, the whole work is just one big sonic, emotional adventure, Frank is raw and refined, bold and soft, the range of voice and feeling is what we’ve come to expect from him and it’s fantastic. He’s a great story teller and lyricist, and also an artist with an incredible ear for musicality, the whole album is beautifully composed, maybe even more so than Channel Orange.

Even the collaborative efforts are out of this world, André 3K does his best to upstage Ocean on ‘Solo (reprise)’, certainly one of the albums many highlights, with Three Stacks laying down a brilliant verse that leaves us all dying for another Outkast album, or maybe even that long awaited solo effort.

‘Nights’, ‘Solo’, ‘Ivy’ and ‘White Ferrari’ are amongst my favourite tracks but again, this album is one of those rarities where you can press play on track one and leave the remote alone until it’s time to rewind to the start and start all over again.

If you’re yet to listen to it, give yourself 90 minutes, sit down, and let Frank do the talking.

Peace, Zack x
